nib Health Care iPhone App
We recently had the chance to design an iPhone app for nib, a major Australian health insurance company.
It was our first iPhone app design job, and boy was it fun. Maybe it was the Apple fanboy in us rejoicing at the fact that we finally had a chance to design something for the iPhone.
The nib Health Care iPhone application lets you view your policy and make a claim right from the app. Its primary function is to find nib outlets that are near to the user, and it does this by determining the location of your phone via its built-in GPS.
The application automatically updates the locations of the outlets by pulling location data from a custom built nib web service. It uses web views (web browser based screens) to display information that needs to be updated on a regular basis and to login and make and view previous claims you’ve made.
It’s a simple but solid app. The design is straightforward and doesn’t try to do anything revolutionary. We focussed on getting the usability just right by adhering as closely as possible to Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines, and all reports so far from the client suggests users are very happy with the result. Most of all, the app gave us a chance to see how we would fare at iPhone design. We’re definitely hoping to do more of it in the future.
You can download the nib Health Care app from iTunes.
